Windows, as symbols, contain a treasure-trove of meaning. They can be opened, shut, cracked, broken, shuttered, fixed, replaced, and cleaned. Literally, they are glassed-in spaces through which we see everyday life. They also serve as portals to the world within. I like the idea of two distinct realities existing in one piece of jewelry. It creates a thoughtful contrast. Interior memories are blended with exterior details as we look past the grids into the window pendant. Concealed things are revealed (and visa versa) when the same pendant is turned over. And then there’s the fun contrast between vintage sepia images and riotous patterns of Japanese origami paper that set up a playful dreamscape. I’d like to think that these hopeful pendants remind the wearer to keep dreaming and to move forward, to make another window with a different set of meanings and climb through it!
